books i read #05/2016

So, jetzt also noch schnell die Mai-Lektüre, bevor der Juni auch schon wieder vorbei ist! Ich bin froh, dass ich durch goodreads selbst den Überblick nicht verliere... Im Mai gab's jetzt nicht so viel spannendes und ein richtiges Highlight war auch nicht dabei. Leider.

"Vicious" von V.E.Schwab hat schon mal eine interessante Erzählweise und auch die Grundidee ist nicht schlecht. Victor und Eli finden heraus, dass sich in Nahtodsituationen Superkräfte bei Menschen entwickeln können und aus guten Freunden werden Erzfeinde. Am Ende, ja am Ende... in letzer Zeit hapert's da immer ein bisschen. Trotzdem ist "Vicious" ein ziemlich gutes Buch für eine neue Perspektive auf Superhelden.

Mit "Assasin's Quest" von Robin Hobb habe ich die Farseer-Reihe nun abgeschlossen und nach diesem Buch sage ich gern "endlich"... mit einem Seufzer. Viel Spaß hatte ich daran nämlich nicht. Vielleicht war's die falsche Zeit, aber ich kam nicht so richtig rein und war oft eher gelangweilt.

Das letzte Buch des Monats stammte von Vivian. Für "Valerias Letztes Gefecht" von Marc Fitten hatte ich mich eigentlich nur wegen des nettes Covers entschieden und die Geschichte von Valeria geht ganz gut los. Eine etwas kauzige ältere Frau erlebt darin einen neuen Frühling, aber Beziehungen sind auch im Alter sehr kompliziert. Ich fand's schön, dass starke Frauencharaktere im Mittelpunkt stehen und wie der Dorfalltag in Osteuropa treffend beschrieben wird. Gen Ende flachte es leider ab.

Now it's time to write a little about what i read in May before June is over already. So glad to have  goodreads to keep track! That was a weak month for me with no great highlights. Sadly.

"Vicious" by V.E. Schwab has an interesting way of storytelling and the plot idea is great. Victor and Eli find out that in near-death-situations people can develop super-human powers and the two friends become arch-enemies over their discovery. In the end, oh well, the end... lately i have trouble finding good endings. "Vicious" is still a good book which gives you a new take on superheroes.

Finally i finished reading the Farseer-Triolgy by reading "Assasin's Quest". I was not having that much fun compared to the first book i read by Robin Hobb. Maybe it was some wrong timing on my side but i just couldn't connect and felt bored a lot.

The last book for this month was "Valeria's Last Stand" by Marc Fitten which i decided for only because of the nice cover. The story starts out nicely with Valeria being portrayed as a grumpy old woman who suddenly experiences some sort of second spring. Relationships being complicated no matter the age, the whole village life is turned up side down. I liked reading about strong women and a very accurate description of village life (in Eastern Europe). Towards the end it got rather weak.
