If there's something we frequently did in Japan it was enjoying the view. The Tochō is a government building for the Tokyo prefecture which has been planned by Kenzō Tange. It was the highest building in Tokyo for a long time and also stars in some Godzilla movies. The best thing for us, though, were the observatories that are free of charge and easily accessible. The 45th floor presents you with a nice view of Tokyo and the café (or bar in the other tower) offers you some nice refreshments.

kuchu teien tenbodai - umeda sky building, osaka

Before i am over-thinking up-coming posts and fussing over the "perfect" strategy of blogging about our Japan trip, i'll simply start... Osaka's greeting was a little grey and rainy but that kind of matched the jetlag feeling and made for a slow start. To get a little overview we headed to the Umeda Sky Building (after i had survived the airplane i had no big trouble with vertigo). During the week it's rather quiet there which made for a relaxed visit and we unexpectedly spend more time up there than we'd planned... the first delicious Matcha icecream of the journey helped a lot as well.

... and who's this?!
small Doro who's happy about the icecream here has been sent on a trip by dorobot in March - you can find all the photos on instagram #tinydorosbigtrip... i took her to Japan with me and so she'll show up on some of my photos

EYE - amsterdam film institute

The (free) ferry takes you in only about five minutes from Amsterdam central station to the island that is the home of the film insitute EYE. We had a little time to kill before our train departed and didn't want to spend it soaking wet in a cold station - so we thought a little warming up could be a nice idea.
In my head the funny architecturally interesting building was somehow booked for a sunny day on its terrace... that there's also a free exhibition to see (we wouldn't have had time for actually watching a movie or checking the other exhibitions) had completely slipped my mind! I am happy we found our way there after all because it was nicely done... and museum's shops seem to magically pull me in anyway (film themed! awesome!). Should you be in Amsterdam - have a look... even if it's just for the ferry ride.
