dresden snapshots: a night time stroll

Dresden is really a cute city and during the late evening or at night the historic old town is completely empty (the Neustadt quarter is better known for its nightlife)... wonderful for trying out photos in the dark with this nice background... i was even tempted to re-enact one of our wedding pictures!

If the cute little castle has not fully convinced you yet, maybe the culinary offers of Moritzburg do... you can have a really nice meal in the castle restaurant but along the Schlossallee you'll find some more good locations.
"Zum Dreispitz" is charming and has a really skilled cook. The fricassee may look completely un-photogenic but it's so tasty! The schnitzel is a nice surprise and the fish stew is simply delicious. The home made cakes are just as good and you should ask the nice staff which one to choose. I really was positively surprised...

the discovery of king tut

Shortly before the exhibition "The Discovery of King Tut" ended in Dresden we took the opportunity to see it at Zeitenströmung. (you can see it now in New York until May) Although we'd already bought the tickets including a set access time we had to wait outside in the rain. That's already the most negative thing - the huge crowd and shoving visitors.
The audio guide is included and with nice voices in your ear (during the second half i switched to English) you're experiencing some sort of live documentary. After a short movie you're entering the grave chamber and its treasures which are thoroughly described and explained. It was much better and more interesting than i'd thought... even though you're not standing in front of the actual artefacts, you don't usually see those objects of art and the endless love for details up close. Really fascinating to see the artisanal know-how of the Egyptians and be able to study them closely!

ghost - black to the future tour

... we've already been to the concert! The decision to see Ghost in Dresden was a good one in the end: the Reithalle is rather cosy and the stage is set a little higher which increases visibility. I'm sure it wouldn't have been as relaxed at Waldbühne Berlin.
The support "Dead Soul" had a nice enough singer and sounded a little like some Depeche Mode rip-off - the audience was a little cool and waiting for the main act became quite a stretch... but it was worth it! Ghost sound a lot less threatening than they look and i was happily grinning and moving to nice guitar sounds. They almost sounded better to me performing live - maybe it's their awesome show that reminded me of a theater performance... in the end the tickets were a gift for me as well as Arnaud!

... and here's one of my favorites:

dresden snapshots: baby, it's cold outside

I'll break the spell of Paris posts (of course there's more!) and show you some snapshots i took during a little work trip this week. I was in Moritzburg and Dresden - both looking beautiful while fresh snow was falling. I just couldn't help taking some photos...
