le mois en livre #11/2015

Joa, ich hätte fast meine November-Bücher vergessen... passiert, wenn man sich einfach nur nach Winterschlaf sehnt (ich finde, dass sollte dringend eingeführt werden!) und doch plötzlich wieder Weihnachtsgeschenke kaufen muss. Dabei habe ich mir doch wirklich schon seit September Gedanken drüber gemacht... blöd, wenn man so ideenlos ist wie ich. Äh... ja... zu den Büchern!

Ich habe die Reihe von Deborah Harkness mit den Büchern "Shadow of Night" (dt. ) und "The Book of Life" (dt. ) beendet. Der zweite Teil macht schon mal Spaß, weil er hauptsächlich in London spielt. Ansonsten frage ich mich, wie mich diese Bücher so in ihren Bann ziehen können. Einiges ist ziemlich vorhersehbar, ein paar Sachen sind sehr zwei-dimensional... trotzdem: Hexen, Vampire, Schlösser, Morantik - i'm in!

Danach habe ich mir Timur Vermes "Er ist wieder da" zu Gemüte geführt. Das Lesen hat ein wenig gedauert, denn dieser Hitler, der da in der Neuzeit wieder aufwacht, gibt seine Erlebnisse in einer bekannten (also ziemlich anstrengenden) Sprache wieder. Die Stimme, die mir da beim Lesen durch den Kopf schießt, ist irgendwie weniger schön. Beklemmung beschreibt das überwiegende Lesegefühl wohl  am besten...

Das letzte Buch des Monats ist dann auch gleich mein Highlight. Andy Weirs "The Martian" (dt. ) erzählt die Geschichte von Mark, der auf dem Mars strandet. Ich mochte die Buch-Idee an sich sehr und Mark ist ziemlich sympathisch, auch wenn sein Humor in dieser Situation manchmal schwer vorstellbar wirkt. Technische Beschreibungen sind gut gemacht und passen sich verständlich in den Lesefluss ein (auch ohne einen Dr. in Astrophysik versteht man genug und wenn man die Fakten überprüfen würde, wäre alles stimmig). Konnte ich schwer weglegen... tolles Buch.

Yeah, i almost forgot my November books... happens when you just feel like hibernating (we should really think about introducing this concept!) and suddenly have to buy Christmas presents. I have been really thinking hard about that since September... well, i am really not good with gift ideas. Oh, well, off to books!

I finished Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy by reading "Shadow of Night" and "The Book of Life". The second book of the trilogy is set in London and that's making it fun for me. Otherwise i 'm seriously asking myself why those books are so enchanting (harhar) for me. There's a lot of predictable stuff, some things are a little too "two-dimensional"... but anyway: witches, vampires, castles, romance - i'm in!
Afterwards i read Timur Vermes' "Look Who's Back". It took a while to read as this Hitler who woke up again in modern times tells his story in a rather authentic (therefor also challenging) style. The voice i'm hearing while reading this is really not that nice. A feeling of oppression or trepidation might best describe the main feeling of reading this book...
The last book of November is definetely also my favorite. Andy Weirs' "The Martian" tells the story of Mark who's stranded on Mars. I liked the idea of the book a lot and Mark is a fun guy, even though his sense of humor is sometimes tough to imagine in his circumstances. Technical details are well done and don't disturb the reading flow (you don't feel stupid about not knowing anything about astro-physics, if you check they're correct as well). Not easy to put down... great book.
