Rowlings "The Casual Vacancy"(dt.

-------------

In October i could have been better at eating myself through books but as i did not have any clue as what to read after number two of the month (yeah, that sounds weird in English), i dragged it on for a long time.

content: The story starts with the sudden death of Barry Fairbrother, member of the Parish Council in which he strongly defended the local drug clinic and the council estate of "the Fields". As the news of his death spreads chaos breaks out about how to go on in upcoming elections.
opinion: This description is kept simple just because i do not want to spoil anything. This book once more shows Rowling's talent in story telling and it is hard to stop reading, even though the book is much darker as it is set in "real life". Definetely worth reading!

content: During the Second World War Sandrine Vidal joins the resistance when the Germans and Vichy French start their terror in Carcassonne and friends disappear. While she and her friends try everything to sabotage the Nazi occupants men on both sides try to find an ancient Codex that will help decide the war.
opinion: From the other books (read about them on my blog here >>> and here>>>) you're already used to the parallel story telling that entwines two different times and fates. There are some characters you're already familiar with as well. The story seems interesting enough but there is something flat and colourless about it all. One thing that became terribly annoying is Mosse's frequent use of French, German and Occitan that is not even always translated and sometimes feels plain wrong. It's a good read all in all, though. Maybe it's just my inability to combine the fantastic with the topic of this horrible war.

  1. Oh weh... ;)
