marx - starting from happy

"Starting from Happy" von Patricia Marx ist mir in einem meiner bevorzugten Buchläden in Paris in die Hände gefallen... der Titel und das Ei auf dem Cover haben mich schnell überzeugt. Soweit ich weiß, gibt es keine deutsche Übersetzung.

Es geht um die Geschichte von Imogene und Wally, die sich in der Apfelkuchen-Schlange auf einer Feier kennenlernen. Imogene ist nicht wirklich überzeugt, aber Wally lässt nicht locker. Es gibt Mails, Anrufe und dann auch Dates... irgendwie überzeugt Wally Imogene, dass sie ziemlich gut zusammen passen und wir verfolgen die beiden ins älter und alt werden.

Die Struktur des Buches ist besonders spannend... es gibt keine Kapitel, sondern so etwas wie Kapitelchen... die bestehen oft auch aus einem Satz oder einem Wort. Es gibt Bilder, Graphiken und eine ziemlich amüsante Erzählerin. Ich fand das Ganze niedlich bis unterhaltsam. Mit ausreichend Vorstellungskraft wird aus diesem Drehbuch ein schöner Film... 

I found "Starting from Happy" by Patricia Marx in one of my favourite book shops in Paris... the title and the egg on the cover convinced me.

We read about Imogene and Wally who meet at a party cueing for apple pie. Imogene is not really convinced but Wally does not give up. There are e-mails, calls and finally dates... somehow Wally convinces Imogene that they would be really good together and we see them getting older.

I enjoyed the structure of the book. It is told in really short chapters called chaplettes... sometimes they consist of just one sentence... or one word. There are also drawings, graphs and a rather funny story teller. I think this book is something between cute and entertaining. With enough imagination you can turn this script into a nice movie...
