vivian maier - street photographer

Die Bilder von Vivian Maier sind mir spätestens mit dem Instagram-Projekt von "This Ain't Art School" noch näher gekommen. Die Geschichte dieser speziellen Fotografin ist wirklich spannend. Sie arbeitete vierzig Jahre lang als Kindermädchen, aber ihre Leidenschaft war immer die Fotografie. Ihre wunderbaren Werke allerdings wurden während ihrer Lebenszeit nie gezeigt und erst im Rahmen von Zwangsversteigerungen gefunden. Sie fängt städtische Szenen ganz besonders ein und so erhält man Einblicke in das Leben in New York und Chicago. Diesen Alltag, diese Menschen, diese Details - sie hat wirklich ein gutes Auge dafür.
Die Ausstellung war sehr schön, auch wenn man noch so viel mehr Bilder anschauen möchte. Man darf übrigens auch fotografieren, wenn's "für privat" ist. Ich musste mich zurückhalten, nicht alle Fotos einfach abzufotografieren. Ist ja auch Quatsch. Natürlich konnte ich mir nicht so richtig verkneifen, auch Bilder von den Besuchern zu machen... seit dem #vivianmaierassignment zücke ich öfter mal die Kamera, um eigentlich fremde Menschen zu fotografieren. Ich hoffe, sie verzeihen's mir in diesem Fall.

Im Willy-Brandt-Haus Berlin kann man noch bis zum 12. April gut zusammen gestellte Fotografien und auch einen Film sehen. Ohne Eintritt! Falls ihr die Gelegenheit haben solltet vorbeizuschauen, solltet ihr sie wirklich nutzen.

The pictures of Vivian Maier became even more dear to me with "This Ain't Art School"s project on instagram. The story of this special photographer is really interesting. She worked as a nanny for fourty years while her true passion was always photography. During her life time nobody ever saw her amazing photos and they were only discovered when they were bought in auctions. Maier is able to capture urban scenes in a very special way and gives you an insight into New York and Chicago life. Those daily life scenes, those people, those details... she does have an attentive and curious eye.
The exhibition was really nice, although you feel like wanting to see so much more. You're allowed to take photos btw if it's for private purposes. I had to hold myself back from taking pics of all the photos. Well, would be nonsense. Of course i couldn't help but snap some pictures of other visitors... since the #vivianmaierassignment i take pictures of people i actually do not know more often. I hope they'll forgive me in this case.

You can see well curated photographies and even film material until the 12th of April in Berlin's Willy Brandt Haus. Without having to pay! If you should have the opportunity to go you really shout see it.
