mankell - steget efter

Na bitte, mein Leserhythmus hat sich wieder ein bisschen beruhigt. Allerdings verführen mich besonders Krimis immer wieder zum "langen" Lesen abends und den Skandinaviern Schweden bin ich anscheinend heillos verfallen: Mankell, Larsson und Jonasson. Follett, der alte Waliser, passt da auch ziemlich gut rein. Ich sollte mal meine Schwedisch-Kenntnisse auffrischen und eine Rundreise zu allen Schauplätzen machen. Ystad kenne ich ja nun wie meine Westentasche.

See, i calmed down again and my reading rhythm is a little more sleep friendly. I still have to be careful with detective fiction, though, as they wanna be read all through the night. Also, it seems that i am addicted to Scandinavian Swedish authors: Mankell, Larsson and Jonasson. Follett, this Welsh guy, fits in this group just fine. I guess i should refresh my Swedish and maybe go on a road trip there. I know Ystad inside out by now...

larsson - luftslottet som sprengdes

Ich habe gar keine große Lust viele Worte über die einzelnen Handlungen zu verlieren. Das nimmt einem zu viel Lesespaß. "Mittsommermord" ist bereits der siebte Wallander-Roman von Mankell und er ist so gut wie seine Vorgänger und wir erfahren mehr über einen von Wallanders Kollegen. "Der dritte Zwilling" ist erneut ein  Roman Folletts, der sich mit der Genforschung beschäftigt. Die Geschichte ist nicht sehr überraschend, liest sich aber gut und unterhaltsam. Für mich ist Follett am besten, wenn er episch wird. Ich warte schon auf den nächsten Band der Jahrhundert-Saga. Der dritte Teil der Millennium-Trilogie von Larsson war ein bisschen enttäuschend und ich konnte gut verstehen, dass ein großes Eselsohr irgendwo um Seite 140 herum markierte, dass mein Lesevorgänger nicht weiter wollte. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt saß ich allerdings im Zug und musste durch. "Vergebung" ist manchmal ein bisschen zäh, aber ich empfand es durchaus als interessantes Buch, da mehrere Hintergründe geklärt werden. Mein Highlight des Monats ist Jonassons "Die Analphabetin, die rechnen konnte", auch wenn es nicht ganz an seinen Vorgänger heranreicht. Ich mag Jonassons Stil und die Geschichte der Südafrikanerin Nombeko, die sich plötzlich in Schweden wiederfindet. Gen Ende habe ich voller Ungeduld auch mal ein "Ooch, nee!" von mir hören lassen, aber Jonasson versöhnt einen doch wieder.

I don't feel like giving you plot summaries - that just spoils the fun and surprise of reading. "One step behind" is already the seventh Wallander novel by Mankell and it's just as good as the others. "The Third Twin" is another novel by Follett that deals with genetic research. The story is not very surprising but still a good and entertaining read. I guess my favorite Follett is an epic one. I can't wait for the third book of the Century Saga. The last book by Larsson - "The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" - concludes the Millennium Trilogy and was a little disappointing. I completely understood my "reading predecessor" who had left a big dog-ear somewhere around page 140. When i got there i was sitting in a train and had to read through. This book can be a little chewy at times but i still liked it for you find out more about the characters. My highlight of this month was Jonasson, even if he does not quite reach the level of his first book with "The Girl who Saved the King of Sweden". I like his style and the story of Nombeko from South Africa who suddenly finds herself in Sweden. Towards the end you could hear me crying "oh, nooo!" full of impatience but Jonasson makes up for it again.
