Dieses Buch habe ich mir zu Gemüte geführt, weil gerade nichts anderes da war. Eigentlich lag es auf Arnauds Bücherstapel. Allerdings hat es mich dann doch so sehr gefesselt, dass ich es schneller gelesen hatte, als beabsichtigt. Ich wollte einfach wissen, wie alles ausgeht.

Der Journalist Joe Oakes hat es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, jegliche übernatürliche Tricks zu enthüllen, mit denen Menschen zum Narren gehalten (und um finanzielle Mittel erleichert) werden. Als ein Video auftaucht, in dem eine Gestalt zwischen Mensch und Tier am Strand einer schottischen Insel entlang spaziert, erweckt das sofort sein Interesse. Die abgeschottete religiöse Kommune, die auf der Insel lebt, läd den Journalisten dann auch ein, um die Gerüchte aufzulösen, die seit dem Video über sie entstanden sind. Allerdings wirft sein Besuch mehr Fragen auf, als dass er Antworten gibt.

Ich war gefesselt vom Schreibstil und dem Kino in meinem Kopf. Auf Seite 282 war ich mir zwar ziemlich sicher, wie die Sache ausgehen wird, aber bis dahin und auch nach meinem Verdachtsmoment konnte ich das Buch kaum beiseite legen. Die Geschichte insgesamt mag nicht originell sein, bot mir jedoch so gute Unterhaltung, dass ich es besonders Krimi-Fans nahelegen kann.

I read this book just because there was nothing else to read and i was already finished with all the books i had to read. So I took one of the books from Arnauds huge pile of to-reads. It was so captivating that i read it faster than i expected.

The field in which journalist Joe Oakes is working most passionately is revealing supernatural hoaxes. When a video appears showing some creature half-human half-beast walking the beach of some scottish island he is immediately interested. The Psychogenic Healing Ministries, a religious community living on this island, invite him to resolve all the rumours that have arisen since the video. But his visit gives him more questions than answers.

I was captivated by the style of writing and i liked the movie running in my head created by the images of the book. On page 282 i was already sure how the book would end, but until then and even after my suspicion became more and more real i could not put the book aside. The story might not be very original but entertained me so well that i can recommend it especially to the fans of crime and detective stories.
